Sustainable + Efficient = Responsible Innovation

ByBox has responded to growing concerns over the logistics industry‘s impact on the environment by introducing a range of green technologies into its latest range of electronic delivery lockers.

With solar panelled roofs and energy saving functions, ByBox lockers no longer require a fixed power source, enabling units to be installed faster, and in virtually any location – without requiring expensive ground and electricity works.

Coupled with the ByBox delivery model, consolidating multiple parcel deliveries through the night into a single locker location, the result is a carbon and time efficient service where deliveries arrive on time but with much fewer miles traveled.

The UK Green Logistics Programme estimates the ByBox model is at least 83% more efficient than traditional carriers. The combination of lockers and innovative delivery system removes the need for legions of small vans on the roads during the day trying to make deliveries to people who are not there and thus, inevitably, having to make return visits, increasing congestion and fuel consumption.

ByBox optimises the energy consumption of each solar panelled locker by:
• Configuring lockers with a specific type and size of solar panel to suit the
different geographical location of the locker;
• Embedding intelligent sensors that detect the amount of human activity on
the locker, and
• Customising the locker’s software management system, which adjusts the
amount of solar power generated in proportion to how often the lockers are used .

The result of this innovation is the first generation of environmentally
friendly, electronic lockers which do not require a fixed power supply.

Biometric identification reduces fraud

ByBox is minimising this risk through integration with advanced biometric technology, resistant to external factors such as humidity, dust, temperature, reproduction, age and imitation.

Using hand-vein-recognition the application provides highly secure access to the lockers for premium services, where the identification of the user is a key-requirement and necessary for the protection of high value goods, data or documents.

An image of the vein is captured when the consumer registers; it is analysed, saved and stored, in either the technical module, a central server, or on a user’s local memory device such as an NFC phone.

ByBox’ latest generation of electronic lockers incorporates Near Field Communication (NFC) technology

Already used by the world’s largest phone manufacturers, NFC provides secure communication between the phone handset and the central console of the locker, giving consumers complete piece of mind their parcel will remain locked inside until the correct NFC enabled handset has arrived to authenticate a shipment or retrieval.

The NFC transaction can also be used to make electronic wallet transactions as new electronic payment systems are introduced around the world. The application of NFC removes the need for a printed receipt which in turn minimises the locker’s impact on the environment and reduces waste.

There is not much point figuring out these clever solutions unless you have the ability to make them happen

At ByBox, we invest nearly €2 million every year in our software, research, development and innovation. From circuit boards to software, manufacturing to machine-coding, project management to patents – it’s all part and parcel of the ByBox solution. ByBox is a technology company driven by continuous innovation. We pioneered and patented the integration of RFID into dropboxes and are now leading the way with the next-generation wireless and biometric technologies.
